a love letter to drip coffee
how i've been brewing, drinking and loving my coffee at home as of late.
like most things in life, the way I prepare and brew coffee tends to change with the season. while i always find myself returning back to a classic oat latte (the most constant drink in my life), i do start to reach for pour-overs and drip coffees more frequently as spring slowly approaches. this then naturally turns into a cold brew in the summer.
on days that i’m working from home, i love the idea of brewing about about 4 cups first thing in the morning and refilling as i go about my day, reheating as needed. maybe there’s something comforting about knowing that another cup is only a refill away, or maybe it’s a problem. i don’t know but i love it.
so, in honour of my newfound drip-coffee obsession, here is everything that goes into making the perfect pot at home (imo).

SHAUGHNESSY randolfo ''el sapo'' pacheco
i love a versatile bean! i've been really enjoying this roast equally in both espresso and drip formats. there’s something very unfussy and simple about it, while still having an interesting and balanced taste.

the drip set up
aiden precision coffee maker by fellow
fellow’s aiden has quickly become an essential part of my drip coffee routine. it really does brew a similar quality to a coffee-shop pour-over (maybe even better) and i’ve been loving how effortless it is to use. one of my favourite features is the ability to schedule my brew in advance, making busy mornings so much smoother.
opus conical burr grinder by fellow
the opus has been a staple in my kitchen for a while now, and it was such a worthwhile upgrade. it’s precision is unmatched and i love how the magnetic catch up helps keep everything neat. also a big fan of its timed auto-stop feature - it’s basically impossible to mess up your grind!
coffee scale
don’t get me wrong - i’ve definitely eyeballed my shots and brews over the years, but since incorporating a coffee scale into my routine, my consistency and precision have (obviously) improved. any scale will really do, but fellow’s tally pro precision scale is a great option for the same quality and precision as the aiden coffee maker and opus burr grinder.
