spooky saturday
welcome to stars hollow (villeray) - it's actually just me and Vic dressed up for halloween
halloween @ sat cafe
it might be cold and snowy out in the streets of Montreal, but that certainly won’t stop me from taking a trip down memory lane to late October of last year when Vic and I dressed up as Lorelei and Sookie from Gilmore Girls for our first spooky Saturday.
like most normal people, Vic and I are halloween lovers. of course we carve pumpkins. of course we watch Halloween Town. of course we run to the nearest dep and spend a ludicrous amount of money on a box of candy because we underestimated how many kids actually live in our neighbourhood. this halloween however was extra special as we got to add a new activity to that list - of course we host a spooky saturday cafe, and of course, we dress up.
there is a case to be made that perhaps this costume wasn’t much of a costume at all - in many ways Vic and I channel Lorelai and Sookie in our daily lives - from our coffee consumption, to our cooking and baking, to our neighbour status…we’re basically already in Stars Hollow. all of that being said, Vic did embark on a journey to find the perfect early 2000’s button up while I sorted through my apron collection in search of something that screamed Sookie. and then, of course, like any sane duo, we art directed ourselves to recreate the perfect photo, which, at the end of the day, really just looks like any other picture of us at any given saturday cafe. but hey - you won’t find me complaining about that.
costumes and spookiness aside, this cafe was extra special for a completely different reason. halloween often brings a lot of people to Montreal, many of our friends included. friends who have watched, supported, and cheered saturday cafe on from afar were finally able to attend, and WOW. what a feeling. this saturday cafe saw a mix of coworkers (i invited my first coworker to come, crazy), friends from home (it’s been a long time coming), our regulars (we love you), and any of the plus ones they brought along - it was a motley crew like we’d never seen before. even amidst this mix, it somehow felt even homey-er than ever. perhaps that’s just what we strive for with every saturday cafe - the magic feeling of home, of togetherness, of all different pockets of life coming together to yap, laugh, eat, drink, and hang.

PISTA SAISON
we stuck with old faithful for this cafe, our beloved PISTA SAISON that never disappoints. it’s caramely, it’s chocolately, it’s pretty much the bean of our dreams.
Country: Brazil & Colombia (blend)
special spooky sweets
nothing says fall like a cinnamon bun with cream cheese icing, so duh, i made cinnamon buns with cream cheese icing. if it isn’t clear by now, baking is like a love language for me. but i also love to customize the things i bake for the people i love…so cinnamon buns sounded like a GREAT time to bust out my gluten free flour and surprise our two resident GFs with some GF buns. i have my own critiques on how they turned out, but blah blah blah, no one really cares because our GFs got their GFs and that is what counts. this is a big step up too, because a couple months ago the best i could offer the GFs was the goop that filled the inside of our dirty chai donuts. so big moves have been made for our GFs if you ask me, and who knows what GF delicacy ill try to whip up next.
