nostalgic scents

i always let myself get completely absorbed in nostalgia whenever there are lingers of familiar, comforting scents. i guess in the last couple of years i’ve been more intentional about making memories through scent, marking chapters and feelings with different fragrances. for example, my first solo trip to portugal smells like a mix of ‘by the fireplace’ by margiela fragrances, warm natas and crisp morning air. after wearing their ‘sailing day’ every day while i was in maine last summer, i can’t smell it without thinking of waves hitting the rocky coastline, sand at the bottom of my tote bag, and the stillness of low tide at higgins beach.

so it’s kind of special that margiela fragrances gave me the opportunity to host a cafe inspired by their new scent ‘afternoon delight’ (like what!). it’s a gourmand, warm scent inspired by sweet treats and parisian cafés, with notes of vanilla, madeleine accord, and sandalwood. so of course, my co-barista and baker kate - who we all know well and love dearly - crafted the most delicious madeleine menu for the occasion.
